Patients with Ethambutol-Induced Ocular Toxicity Receiving "Directly Observed Treated Short-Course"

Objective: Determine the total number of Category-1 patients with ocular toxicity from Ethambutol after DOTS therapy. Methodology: This study conducted in department Ophthalmology abaseen hospital and Khyber medical center Peshawar over one year, May 2021 to April 2022 included TB (both genders) aged 14 65 who had normal parameters on an ophthalmological examination when starting treatment. The frequency any vision change, optical symptom, including color vision, contrast sensitivity while receiving medication was examined 240 eyes (120 patients). At end first month again at second therapy, Each patient's compliance examined, all tests for were repeated each chosen patient. did not include category-2 positive sputum smears relapsed, therapy fail, or getting treatment a break Results: Out 120 (240 eyes), 62 (51.6%) them male, 58 (48.4%) female patients. After month, there no sign toxicity. Ocular toxicity, other hand, appeared 3 (2.5%) month. Moreover, these three showed decreased visual acuity, poor sensitivity, optic disc abnormalities. Conclusion: Patients tuberculosis use are risk developing As result, it is essential identify symptoms signs as soon possible avoid unnecessary diagnostic delays maybe irreversible loss.
